Media Head Lines Are Nothing But Business

Today India with lots and loads of news channels, local and National dailies, I feel that most of them fails to showcase and carry over the issues which are burning India for the fear of loosing their ad revenues or fearing the 'Babus' in power. From my observation I have never noted a media following what is happening to the Sathyam Scam fame Ram Raju and Ramalinga Raju; No media is still enquiring who were faulty in the near great diaster which would have happened to the helicopter carrying Hon.President of India. No media is enquiring which all comapnies will fall agin in the trail of Sathyam Computers or what happened to the lands of farmers at Nandigram or why there is still a delay in starting the Smart city in cochin, What happened to the people who suffered Godhra riot while the media is just interested in projecting the fast industrialization in Gujarat, What is happening to multimillion scam of Jayalalithaa, Were does the polititians get money to shover from helicopters to purchase votes in north india.

The media for me is just an advertizement industry which fakes of having responsibility to the people of the country and never ever dares of reporting anything that hurts their interest. I do believe at this moment the famouus words of Amarthya sen: " The basic rule of economics is that Every man is Selfish". I do accept and carry the spirits of the words to the core. In an industry where solid capital is involved the primary aim of the promoter is to reap profits out of it and media is nothing different. The offset press and paper required for printing the newspapers are never given free or the airtime or the setting up of TV stations is never given as a grand. Solid capital is involved. I do accept that but i cannot afford to accept the words of media persons that they are responsible to the society even now.

Then what is meant by a headline? For me it is nothing but an eyecatching Mascot or a sweet sounding jingle composed. Pure business is only involved in it. The aim is just to create a hype and there by promoting circulation. Majority of the Journalists are nothing but trained ad personels.

It is interesting to note that India has journalists who dared to speak for the interests of the public and nation with out looking for their personal gains like Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishnapilla. Late Prof.M.N.Vijayan may be cosidered as a person in that genre, atleat in the later half of his life if my observations are not that false.

India has persons with eminent skills in reporting even now like the Barkha dutt and Sreenivas jain; but my question still remains relavent that whether they were able to be true to the society or are they kept in rein to tune the interests of the promoters of the companies. The question still remain unanswered as we observe a burning issue in the front page of a news paper, and later getting shrinked to a few lines somewhere in the inner pages and going unnoticed and getting erased from the memmory of the public later on and the perpretrators of crime and nepotism escaping the strong holds of the law with the money, man, muscle and manipulative powers they own.

  1. Media is business - and a big one - free and fair reporting - if there is any at all is incidental. News is largely planted. A lot of things go into deciding
    a) What needs to get highlighted
    b) Where does it come
    c) How big is the coverage etc
A sane and level headed man would take reported news - not with a pinch - but a pound of salt!
